7-day Manali itinerary, day by day

Day 1: Manali town and Old Manali

Arrive. A gentle first day while you get used to the altitude: the cedar forest temples, the Mall, and an evening in the Old Manali cafes.

  • Hadimba Devi Temple
  • Van Vihar on the Beas
  • Manu Temple, Old Manali

Day 2: Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel and Sissu

The classic high day: paragliding or the ropeway at Solang, then through the 9 km Atal Tunnel to the snow and waterfall at Sissu. Check the tunnel is open after fresh snow.

  • Solang Valley paragliding
  • Solang ropeway
  • Atal Tunnel
  • Sissu waterfall and Chandra river

Day 3: Vashisht and Jogini Falls

A walking day from town: the hot springs at Vashisht, then the trail up to Jogini Falls through orchards.

  • Vashisht hot springs and temple
  • Jogini Falls hike
  • Riverside cafe on the Beas

Day 4: A free day

Leave a day unplanned: go back to the place you liked most, or keep it as a buffer for weather and closures.

Day 5: Rohtang Pass

Open roughly May to November and only with an online permit, which sells out. Leave before 7 am; the pass is at 3,978 m, so keep the day short.

  • Gulaba snow point
  • Rohtang Pass
  • Marhi

Day 6: Kasol and Manikaran

A long day into the Parvati valley, about three hours each way: the hot springs and langar at Manikaran, and the cafes of Kasol.

  • Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara and hot springs
  • Kasol cafes
  • Chalal riverside trail

Day 7: Naggar and Jana Falls

The old capital of Kullu, 20 km down the valley: a castle with a view, the Roerich gallery and Himachali food at Jana. Keep the end of the day free so the journey home is not rushed.

  • Naggar Castle
  • Roerich Art Gallery
  • Jana Falls and a Himachali thali

Where to stay

Old Manali and the Log Huts area put you close to cafes and the Hadimba forest; Mall Road is busier but central. Stay in Sissu or Jispa only if you are heading on to Lahaul.

When to go

March to June has open roads and pleasant weather. December to February brings snow to Solang and the tunnel, but Rohtang Pass stays shut. Avoid July to mid-September when monsoon landslides regularly close the highway.

Getting there

Nearest airport is Bhuntar (KUU), about 50 km away; most travellers drive or take an overnight bus from Delhi or Chandigarh.
